

Powers and Duties 
According to the Ministerial Regulation on the Division of the Administrative Units of the Department of Community Development, Ministry of Interior, B.E. 2552 (2009), dated March 24, 2009, the Department of Community Development has responsibilities related to promoting learning processes and public participation, strengthening and developing the grassroots economy to ensure stability and security, by supporting the use of information, conducting studies, research, developing community strategies, as well as training and developing personnel involved in community development to create strong and sustainable communities. The powers and duties are as follows:
1. Define policies, strategies, measures, and guidelines for national community development to provide a framework for state agencies, private sectors, and relevant stakeholders to use in their operations to enhance the capacity and strength of communities.
2. Develop and establish community development standards systems to be used as tools for evaluating the progress and standards of community development.
3. Develop systems and mechanisms to promote learning processes, knowledge management, career development, savings, and community fund management to strengthen the capabilities of citizens, communities, community leaders, community organizations, and community organization networks.
4. Support and develop community information systems, promote the use of and provide community information services to assist in effective development planning and management.
5. Study, analyze, research, develop, and create knowledge to support community development work and community strategy formulation.
6. Provide training and development for civil servants, relevant officials, community leaders, community organizations, and community organization networks to have knowledge, skills, attitudes, and competence for their work, as well as offer academic cooperation in community development with domestic and international agencies.
7. Perform any other tasks as prescribed by law as the department’s duties or as assigned by the Ministry or the Cabinet.
