
On Monday, October 28, 2024, at Suralai Hall on the 7th floor of Icon Siam Shopping Mall, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, met with and encouraged the participants, as well as awarded the winners of the “New Gen Young Designer 2024” Thai Fabric Designer Contest. The event was graced by Ms. Sabida Thaithesath, the Deputy Minister of the Interior, who gave the opening speech, and Mr. Siam Sirimongkol, Director-General of the Department of Community Development, who reported on the objectives of the event.
The event also received support from the Ministry of Interior's executives and a panel of expert judges in fashion and design. This year, the contest aimed to find new designers from across the country who could design fashionable clothing from valuable Thai fabrics, making them suitable and fun to wear in everyday life.
This initiative is part of the “Thai Fabric, Fun to Wear” project, inspired by the royal vision of Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana, which seeks to promote the use of Thai fabrics in modern, everyday styles, accessible to all genders and ages.
The winners of the contest were as follows: the first-place winner, Mr. Ruj Klamsee from Bangkok, received a cash prize of 200,000 THB, a sewing machine, and an iPad. The first runner-up, Mr. Nurdin Waekaji from Pattani, received a cash prize of 100,000 THB. The second runner-up, Ms. Thanatporn Worathongchai from Bangkok, received a cash prize of 75,000 THB. Additionally, five consolation prizes of 40,000 THB each were awarded to other notable participants.
This contest not only gave new designers the opportunity to showcase their talents but also contributed to the elevation of Thai fabric products, aiming for both national and international recognition. It is expected to generate income and strengthen the economic foundations of local communities across the country.
